Moderate course reviews
Learners can rate and review a course or learning path. These course reviews are the star ratings and comments shown in the library — not course surveys, which are forms you send learners after a course (see Run course surveys). Nothing they write is publicly visible until somebody approves it, and this is the screen where that happens.
Find it under Reviews. It needs one of the course review permissions — view, archive or delete.
Working through them
Section titled “Working through them”- Choose Reviews.
- Filter by status: Pending is the queue, Approved is what is already public, All reviews is both.
- Open a review to read it in full, with its rating and the course or learning path it belongs to.
- Choose Approve to make it publicly visible, or Decline to leave it hidden.
A review shown as Anonymous hides the author from learners. It does not hide them from you.
Approving is reversible. Unpublish on an approved review hides it again, and nothing is lost by changing your mind.
Deleting
Section titled “Deleting”Deleting a review cannot be undone, and the confirmation says so. Unpublishing is almost always the better tool: it removes the review from public view while keeping the rating and the record of what was said.
Acting on several at once
Section titled “Acting on several at once”Select several reviews and you can act on all of them in one go. Make approved publishes every review you selected; Unpublish hides every review you selected. Neither touches a review that is already in the state you asked for, so it is safe to run over a mixed selection from All reviews — an approved review stays approved when you publish a batch around it.
Bulk delete carries the same warning as a single delete, and the same advice applies — unpublish in bulk instead.
What approving changes
Section titled “What approving changes”Approving sets one flag on the review: whether it is publicly visible. The author is not notified, and their rating is not altered.
It does, however, move the course’s score. A course’s average rating counts publicly visible reviews only, so a rating sitting in the Pending queue is not in the average yet, and unpublishing a review takes its rating back out. Moderating reviews is therefore a decision about the course’s score as well as about the words.
