Due dates and deadlines

A deadline belongs to the course, and each person picks it up when the course is assigned to them. There is no separate deadline screen.

The builder needs a screen at least 1280 pixels wide. Narrower than that it refuses to open, showing Screen too small and a link back to the course list, so this is desktop work rather than something to do on a tablet.

  1. Open Course settings from the cog at the top of the builder.
  2. Find Course deadline and choose how it works.
  3. Save.

The two are mutually exclusive: setting one clears the other.

The deadline is applied as somebody is assigned, and only then. Changing the course deadline afterwards does not move the date for anybody who already has it.

So a deadline is worth deciding before you assign, not after. To change one that people already hold, reassign them.

Assigning courses in bulk lets you set a Due date for that assignment alone, which is the way to give one intake a different deadline from the course’s own.

When somebody is reached more than once, by the course and by a learning path for instance, they keep the earliest date of the ones that reach them.

Overdue is worked out once a day, early in the morning, rather than the moment a date passes.

Only mandatory training is ever marked overdue. Optional training with a date passes it quietly.

The flag clears as soon as they complete the course.

The grace period, and what it does not cover

Section titled “The grace period, and what it does not cover”

Overdue training grace period on the dashboard settings holds a number of days after the due date before something is shown as overdue.

It changes what your dashboards and the learner’s own banner call overdue. It does not change the overdue mark itself, which is set the day after the date regardless.

Worth knowing if a report and a dashboard disagree about the same person during those few days.

A banner on their learning page showing Overdue by so many days, or Due in so many days as the date approaches. The amber warning starts on the day their first reminder email would be sent.

They can choose Dismiss for now to hide it for 24 hours on that device. It comes back sooner if something else becomes overdue or due. With positions switched on, it cannot be dismissed at all while one of their positions is not compliant.

Deadlines are dates, not times of day, and your account’s timezone does not change them. Learnient starts each new day at midnight UTC, so during British Summer Time a course becomes overdue at 1am rather than at midnight.

To tell people before the date arrives rather than after, see Reminders.
