Tagging a course with skills
Tagging a course with skills is what connects your training to everything else. A course with no skills on it is just content; a course tagged with Fire safety shows up when somebody has a gap in fire safety, counts towards a job title that requires it, and can raise the level people hold when they finish.
Skills must exist in your library before a course can be tagged with them. See Managing the skill library.
Where course skills are set
Section titled “Where course skills are set”Open a course from Courses, choose Course settings using the cog icon at the top right, then the Skills tab.
Adding a skill to a course
Section titled “Adding a skill to a course”- Choose Tag a skill.
- Search for the skill and select it. If it does not exist yet you can add it here without leaving the course.
- For a skill with a scale, set Develops to — the level somebody reaches by completing this course.
- Switch on Auto-advance if finishing the course should actually raise the level people hold.
- Choose Save.

Note: an Achieved (yes/no) skill has no level to set, and the tab says so rather than offering an empty control. Completing the course records the skill as held.
What Develops to and Auto-advance each do
Section titled “What Develops to and Auto-advance each do”These two settings are independent, and the difference matters.

Auto-advance only ever raises a level. Somebody who already holds a higher level keeps it, and finishing the course again changes nothing.
Turn it on where finishing the course is genuinely the evidence — a certification, a compliance module, a practical sign-off. Leave it off where the course is one input among several and a manager should still make the call.
Asking Lenni to suggest the skills
Section titled “Asking Lenni to suggest the skills”Suggest with Lenni reads the course and suggests skills from your library, which saves searching for them one at a time on a course that is already written.
Save the course first — there is nothing to read until you have. You are told how many suggestions were added, and they behave exactly like skills you picked yourself: nothing is saved to the course until you choose Save, and you can remove any of them first.
Suggestions come from the skills you already have. A course written by AI goes further and can create a skill that is genuinely new — see Creating a course with AI.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Why does a skill show no level on a course?
Section titled “Why does a skill show no level on a course?”It is an Achieved (yes/no) skill. Those have no scale, so there is no level to develop to — somebody either holds the skill after finishing or they do not.
Why has nobody’s skill level changed after completing the course?
Section titled “Why has nobody’s skill level changed after completing the course?”Auto-advance is off for that skill, which is the default. Develops to on its own says what the course teaches; it does not write anything to anybody’s record.
Can I change the skills on a published course?
Section titled “Can I change the skills on a published course?”Yes. The Skills tab works the same on a published course, and changing a tag does not change anything already recorded against people who finished it earlier.
Why can I not find a skill when tagging a course?
Section titled “Why can I not find a skill when tagging a course?”It is either archived or not in the library yet. Archived skills are hidden from the picker — see Managing the skill library to bring one back or add a new one.
